Horace Joseph "Buddy" Ferranti
(13-Jul-37 to 27-Sep-04)

His Life | His Illness | His Memorial

Horace "Buddy" Ferranti, 67, of Delhi, California died September 27, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Palo Alto.  Mr. Ferranti was a native of Monterey.  He lived in Delhi one year and previously lived in Patterson 20 years.  He was a carpenter in the maintenance department at Patterson Frozen Foods for more than 20 years.  He enjoyed camping and fishing.  He was a Navy veteran, serving from 1955-58.  He is survived by his children, Susan Boyd and Mike Ferranti, both of Delhi, and Tracy Ferranti of Riverbank; mother, Pauline Ferranti of Cottonwood; brothers, Ron Ferrante of St. Louis, MO, Eddie Ferranti of Monterey and Richard Ferranti of Mountain View; sister, Joleen Hevner of Cottonwood; and five grandchildren.  On November 6, 2004, his brothers Eddie and Richard scattered part of his ashes atop Devil's Peak, one of his favorite spots, in the Ventana Wilderness.

Narrative by brother Ron Ferrante dated 28-Oct-04:  H.J. (Buddy) Ferranti passed away from complications of leukemia at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Palo Alto, CA on Monday, September 27, 2004 at roughly 2AM. Born July 13, 1937, he grew up in Monterey, CA while it still had its now nostalgic charm.

While in his early teens, he would often caddy at Pebble Beach golf courses.  He entered the US Navy in January, 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1958, having had tours of duty that included various Asian ports.  He served on the USS Tingey and USS Spangler.  He married Sherry Nevis on May 14, 1960 in Carmel, CA.  They had three children:  Michael in March 1961, Tracy in April 1965 and Susan in August 1966.  Buddy worked an assortment of jobs, mainly in the building trades in California, but also in South Carolina for a short while.  In his latter work years, he lived and worked in Patterson, CA as a carpenter/handy man at Patterson Frozen Foods.

He was a “natural” when it came to art and, specifically, sculpture as hobbies. He also greatly enjoyed hiking, camping and auto-mechanics.  Buddy will be sorely missed.  His memorable and often dry sense of humor was a source of enjoyment for all who knew and loved him best.
