Andrew
Jackson Hayden Text provided by Joseph A. Hayden: How did I get these pictures? When my grandfather died and it looked as if my uncle Andy was going to get the entire inheritance, I was asked by my uncle if there was anything from my grandfather's estate I wanted. Without missing a beat, I immediately said "THE PICTURES!" I knew that a couple of generations were probably documented in the hundreds of pictures and slides that I remember seeing in my grandfather's possession, which I would pour through every time I visited him. I became more and more interested in genealogy and getting to the truth of what happened in my father's childhood. Grandpa was always refreshingly honest in telling me about who was alcoholic, but who still had good hearts, and about all the drama that used to occur in our family, which much of the time had very little in terms of possessions. I remember long evenings of watching slide slows as a child and hearing the military stories and other things that I didn't appreciate like I do now. I think losing my father made my hunger for information increase exponentially. At this point I figure a lot of people are curious about old photos -- and not just relatives. A picture is worth a thousand words, and these are no exception. Any enthusiasts of the military, automobiles, construction and other historical areas can all glean enjoyment from these images.

Born on a barge between
Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington (where there is a large island
called "Hayden Island" which may be telling), retired in Mt. Aukum, California, outside of
Placerville in the "Mother Lode" country, as it is referred to. |

Joseph Andrew, Andrew Jackson and Alexandra Monique Hayden about June 1992. Widowed and heart-broken from his youngest son's death, AJH lived just long enough to meet his great-granddaughter, Alexandra in 1992. |

In
three branches of the military, AJH got to travel the world, particularly
the Pacific rim, where he was either stationed or on the ship. He was
in the Coast Guard, Navy and Army, even stationed at the famous Presidio in
San Francisco when they had the cavalry there, he used to tell me.
